I believe the walls have to be made of a sufficiently high quality to plaster them. The low level walls with 6 inch wide gaps between boards wouldnt hold plaster all that well if you think about it. I ran into this before with low level carpentry and i couldn't plaster them. Much much later i was building much nicer walls, and then it worked.
